Just four days remain until the 2020 general election in the United States. In the state of Texas, one of the largest in the nation, more people have taken advantage of early voting and cast ballots than voted in the entire 2016 election, with early voting and Election Day voting combined. So it seems that turnout is way up, and Texas (normally a state that votes Republican) is seen as a potential toss-up. If Joe Biden can carry Texas, his path to winning the presidential election will be a no-brainer.

Four Days to the Election: Last Updates
Despite President Trump’s claims that the nation has “turned the corner” on the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of new daily cases is reaching record highs once again. Trump has spent much of the pandemic casting doubt on the case numbers, blaming the Chinese government for allowing the disease to exist and making fun of such precautions as wearing a mask. In a rally on Thursday, though, he told rallygoers that wearing masks and social distancing were now important.
Another key battleground state is Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is a strongly Democratic voting area, but the rest of Pennsylvania is much more conservative. The shooting of Walter Wallace Jr in Philadelphia by police officers has Philadelphia in an uproar of protests. That could push voters to come out and support Biden, in the hopes that reforms will come to change the way policing takes place. It could also push voters to come out and support Trump, who has banged the drum loudly against protests, particularly those voicing anger with police shootings. Trump is leaning hard on the “law and order” message – and even Biden is showing disapproval of the looting that has taken place in Philadelphia in the aftermath of the shooting. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the state’s voting.
Oh, and if 2020 weren’t already crazy enough, Hurricane Zeta has made landfall, once again in Louisiana. Loss of power led to shutdowns at early voting sites in this state, and alternative voting sites may be needed ahead of Tuesday.
