The latest news from the Democratic party is that many members are keen to see Pete Buttigieg land a spot in Joe Biden’s cabinet. The former mayor of South Bend and a 2020 candidate, Buttigieg is seen as a future player within the party.

A former military man who is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Buttigieg might land the secretary of Veteran Affairs role; but that is a job that is often viewed as a no-win spot for an up and coming politician.

Buttigieg could also land a significant ambassadorship role; a position that would help him polish his foreign policy experience, which would certainly come in handy in future presidential campaigns.

The fact that his name is connected to so many positions; is a testament to his current standing within the Democratic party. Buttigieg came in strong in the presidential primary campaign, winning the Iowa caucuses despite not being a familiar name on the political front. He eventually bowed out of the race in March, throwing his support towards Joe Biden at that point.

There is healthy mutual respect between the President-elect and Buttigieg, and while the former mayor has made clear his political aspirations, although he is also an Indiana resident, a state which has trended further right for years now.

It would be a boost for his career to get out of state politics and into a cabinet position that can only elevate his standing. The hard work that he put in on behalf of Biden during the presidential campaign; is a clear sign to many that he is a shoo-in for a cabinet spot. For now, sources say that Biden is taking the waiting in stride.
