The idea of a “Virtual Debate” didn’t sit too well with President Trump, who declined participating in the second and only debate of the season.
The Commission of Presidential Debates, the entity in charge of the planning and execution of the events, confirmed today the cancellation of the second Presidential Debate, planned for October 15th, turning the third-original debate date (scheduled for Oct 22) into the last and only opportunity left to watch the presidential candidates do battle on live television.
The cancellation comes after President Trump expressed yesterday his unwillingness to accept the virtual format as the modus operandi for the next debate, insisting on a live on-site classic format instead. The Commission had announced the new virtual measures on Thursday, in response to Trump’s positive COVID-19 diagnosis from the previous week.
In his traditional style, President Trump went on Twitter and Facebook this morning to share some of his thoughts on the cancelled second debate: “Steve Scully, the second Debate Moderator, is a Never Trumper, just like the son of the great Mike Wallace. Fix!!!”
Final Fight for Key States
Trump will head to Florida on Monday, to the town of Sanford, looking to give a flip to the betting odds, and win those super important electoral votes. The latest polls and betting predictions see Trump losing Florida by a very tiny margin, so every action taken by the incumbent president in the coming days could mean the difference between winning or losing the traditionally conservative coastal state.
